Training in a CrossFit gym is one of the best investment you can make in yourself. The toughest part is choosing the right CrossFit gym for your needs. We believe that if you don’t like your gym, you likely won’t train for a long time.
Let us help you make the right decision so you can have the best CrossFit journey ever!
Clean CrossFit equipment?
While you might not be a gym equipment expert, the goal here is just to look at the setup of the gym. Do you like the way the equipment is organized, and most importantly do you imagine yourself working out here?
You can also look at how old the equipment is. While you might not care, some like to be working out with an brand-new equipment feel while others love the old vibe of a gym.
What about the gym itself?
Like the equipment, you want to find an environment that truly motivates you to go train. It definitely varies based on your personality, taste, and goals.

For instance, you might want a warm & fun environment or a more serious & professional environment. There’s no right or wrong here, it really depends on your own preferences. You might also want to train with athletes rather than a family-oriented environment.
What’s your budget?
We can’t talk about choosing a gym without talking about the budget. In our opinion, price shouldn’t be the most important factor when it comes to taking a decision for your gym.
The reason is – you must enjoy training at the gym first and foremost. If you don’t pay much but don’t go because you hate the gym, you’re better off saving your money.
You can look for promotions as well or free classes to try out gyms before getting a membership. At Waverly, we have a very personalized approach with small group classes. We get the energy of a group and the proximity of 1:1 coaching in one place.
Time since opening
An established gym isn’t better than a newer one, but you just need to look at different things. For instance, an established gym might have old equipment, a loyal clientele, and a set way of doing things.
On the flip side, a newer gym will usually have fresh equipment and be super excited to receive you as a new member. Now, keep in mind I said might because it’s not the case for every gym, but these are things to look out for.

For instance, Waverly was built in 2013. We like to say we always make sure our gym is top-notch and has the best coaches. We also love welcoming new members to the family!
What are your CrossFit needs?
Obviously, the classes offered by the CrossFit gym you choose must fit your schedule and needs. Most CrossFit gym have different type of classes you can try like HIIT, 1:1 training, CrossFit, and Olympic Weightlifting.
We can’t know your personal preferences but if you like working out Saturday morning, just make sure the gym in question has those classes. Now, you might love a gym so much that you don’t mind them only doing a class on Sunday morning.
Read Online Reviews
This seems normal but look at Google or Facebook reviews. We like to look at negative reviews to see the worst part of a gym.
In general, don’t get hung up on something if one person said something but remember no gym is perfect. Just make sure that what the gym doesn’t have isn’t something important to you.
We would also recommend that the overall rating of the gym can give you a good idea of its quality. You might find cheaper, but the gym could have tons of negative reviews. In other words, we highly recommend paying more for a CrossFit gym you love.
Over To You
